You should be happy you’re alive. Life can be hard. That much has been established. Life can be hard, but life is also really fucking beautiful.
Shit happens, and it sucks, but you also get the opportunity to be happy. We’re so caught up in all the sadness in the world that we forget we can smile, too.
That’s why I’ve written this—to remind you that even if you have bad in your life, you also have good. Here are 5 reasons why you should be happy you’re alive.
1. YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LIVE
You’re in control of your life. While society may constantly tell you that you have to go to college, and get a stable job that will make you good money, the truth is that you can do whatever the hell you want. (Anything morally good, I mean.)
“If you’re not dreaming big for yourself, who’s doing it for you?” – Gary Vaynerchuk
There are opportunities all around you just waiting to be grasped. Pursue the thing that you’re passionate about. If no one has made a career out of it, then be the first one. It’s going to be terrifying, but I know you can do it. Believe in yourself so much that nothing can stop you.
2. YOU CAN HELP OTHERS
It’s a good feeling when you help others. It makes you feel fulfilled. It’s even beneficial for you because your happiness boosts when you help other people.
It doesn’t matter is an act is small or big. Giving, despite the size, makes others feel important because they know that you’re giving from a special place.
You’re happy you’re alive when you help someone because you realize that you’re making amazing things happen.
How you can help:
- Read Dr. Suess to your younger sibling
- Share a song that will boost someone mood
- Give good advice
- Introduce your best friend to a show that’ll make them laugh
3. THERE’S FICTION YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT ON
Everyone loves a good movie, show, or book. Don’t you want to consume all you can at night when your day of hard work is over?
There are great books out there like Misery by Stephen King, Beartown by Fredrick Backman, and the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
There are movies that’ll fuck you up like Shutter Island, great musicals like The Greatest Showman, and movies inappropriately funny movies like Almost Adults.
There are shows about love like LOVE, there are badass women in Wynonna Earp, clones in Orphan Black, and non-stop laughter in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Fiction makes people feel good, and it’s great reason to be happy you’re alive.
4. YOU CAN LOOK AROUND FOR THE GOOD
Doing nice things is great, but reading about or watching random acts of kindness can be just as heart-warming.
Look around you and try to find awesome things that are going on. Maybe you’re in a restaurant, and there’s a family of 6 being extra loud, laughing their asses off. Look at your newborn niece and all of her innocence. Think of all the puppies being adopted somewhere.
Life can be terribly difficult, but there’s an abundance of good that you can find. Don’t let the negativity in the world bring you down. Focus on the good.
5. YOU HAVE A PURPOSE TO LIVE OUT
Whether you have one purpose or fifty of them, you should be happy you’re alive because you’re here to make a difference.
Your purpose can be direct or not. One of your purposes can be to stand up for someone who’s being bullied.
The person you stood up for was someone who wanted to take their life, but when you stood up for them, they realized that someone cared.
Then, that person goes on to share their story, and they touch hundreds of lives.
One of those lives is a single mother of 3 who’s tired of life, but the story lets her remember that her kids care about her.
And it all keeps going and going, and it all started because of you.
Maybe you need to become a business person who then makes free YouTube videos to help others build business. Maybe someone heard you coming out to your parents at a restaurant, and it inspired them to do the same.
You get the point. You fucking matter.
Be glad that you’re alive because there’s so much to look forward to. Let me know in the comments below why you’re happy you’re alive.
