“We are all perfect in our own, magnificent fucked-up ways. Laugh at yourself. Love yourself and others. Rejoice in the cosmic ridiculousness.” –Jen Sincero
We’re all messed up in one way or another. That’s the beautiful thing.
We’re all weird, insane, and crazy in our own unique and wonderful ways. It’s what makes the world so goddamn interesting. Imagine if we were all the same, with no differentiating factors. How lame would life be?
Well, that’s basically what people are doing, if you think about it. We’re hiding all of different quirks and personality traits with sameness and fakeness in order to fit in. And frankly, it’s all pretty boring and getting old.
Don’t you feel attracted to people who are different? You like someone because they’re funny and don’t give a crap, or because they stay in and read books every night instead of pretending they like parties, right?
You’re attracted to people who are weirdly themselves. Because that’s how it is. Being yourself is a rare thing in this world.
But back to my point. Everyone is fucked up.
That means that no one on this planet has the right to make fun of anyone else for being a bit (or really) fucked up. But, unfortunately, that doesn’t stop people. Which is why, instead of hiding your spectacular yourself, you should embrace who you are and show yourself off to the world.
But, that’s why you’re reading this aren’t you? Because you want to do just that. Because you’re tired of hiding behind a mask because you know that you have so much more to offer to the world.
Which brings us to the questions: How the hell do I fall in love with my weird side?
DON’T TAKE YOURSELF TO SERIOUSLY
Do you ever find yourself stressing out over something one night and the next morning you’re just like God, I was being so dramatic?
That is a great mentality.
We take life way too seriously sometimes. We forget that in this very fucking large Universe, we’re so small and practically insignificant (not saying you’re insignificant), and that are problems, in the grand scheme of things, are nothing. (Again, not saying your problems aren’t valid).
We’ve all gotta learn to lighten up sometimes and to remember that we’re so lucky to be alive. Sometimes, all we need is to go outside, look at the sky, and take a deep breath. I know that sounds super cheesy and lame, but I only speak the truth to you.
I’m not saying that you have to go out and party or get drunk every weekend or at all. That’s not what I mean by not taking yourself seriously and loosening up.
Here are 5 things you can do to lessen the stress and calm down.
1. Watch a couple funny YouTube videos
2. Watch Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone (cause who doesn’t love all the innocence and magic?)
3. Listen to the pop music everyone pretends to hate
4. Go to the library (seriously, you don’t even have to read, but being surrounded by books just feels really good)
5. Read about something random you’re really interested in just cause you can
Stop being so serious all the time (unless that’s just who you are as a person and can’t help it, but even then I know you can have fun)! There’s no need to be a full grown adult just yet.
Life’s too short to be ashamed or hidden away under a rock because of a who we are or because we make a few embarrassing mistakes. Don’t let them sit in your mind making you feel like you’re too socially awkward to be seen in public.
We all stumble when we talk sometimes and say things by accident or trip over nothing and it’s fine. Remember that the next time you feel like you should crawl back under your rock.
LOVE YOURSELF AND BE WEIRD
This post is all about laughing at your mistakes and embracing the way that you are, even if you’re a (beautiful) mess. Knowing this, love yourself. Stop hiding away who you are, accept yourself, and love yourself. Please.
No one deserves to be apologetic for who they are. It kills me knowing that there are people out there who really want to change and be someone else when they’re capable of creating amazing things and bringing joy to others all while being who they are.
Don’t be scared of being who you want and love every single aspect of yourself, head to toe, in and out.
Knowing this, love others for being themselves, too.
Don’t judge and make fun of people. Don’t make people feel shitty.
Finally, enjoy the fact that you and everyone else on this planet are insane and create even more ridiculousness together.
